Here at Firestone Walker, we celebrate the people who pursue their passions in the same way we pursue our passion for beer: wholeheartedly and thoroughly. Dylan Gordon – filmmaker, photographer, artist, adventurer – is one of those people.
Dylan found his passion for photography by accident. It began with his interest in capturing the things and people that he was surrounded by. He grew up bouncing between his family’s horse ranch on the Central Coast and traveling for competitive downhill skateboarding. Dylan became enamored with the idea of capturing and telling the stories unfolding him all around him, while still being a part of everything he was doing. This realization brought him to Ventura, where he pursued journalism and filmmaking.
— Dylan GordonWhat I look for in an image comes from real moments and real experiences, being a part of it.
He found his focus in the outdoor and adventure space through his love of surfing. After graduating from the Brooks Insitute in Ventura, he took to the road and traveled for months collecting a portfolio from his expeditions. It was during this period that he was hired at Surfer Magazine. Dylan then realized that he could expand his range to include his more eclectic interests as he does in his personal endeavors.
Though his work is based around his travels, Ventura is where he calls home. The ability to be able to drive to the beach in the morning to surf and then head into the mountains on the same day is one of the draws for Dylan. He loves that nothing changes, things are mellow and there are good humble and honest people that are always doing something fun and creative.
His passion for creation and exploration is driven by his love of storytelling. Dylan believes that photography has the ability to support its subjects and positively affect their lives. Exploration has always been inherently involved in Dylan’s way of thinking: it goes hand in hand with how he chooses to live his life. The methods by which he gets there just happen to be the means to a good time.
— Dylan GordonYou see it differently because you do it.
It is his dedication to exploration that has taken him all around the world in search of stories and adventure. Adventures like riding motorcycles in Bhutan across the Himalayas, to confrontations with salmon poachers while surfing a remote wave in Russia.
He has worked with many different brands to capture those epic moments adventurers seek out. Dylan’s work has taken him to Jamaica, the Falkland Islands, Vietnam, and many more incredible places, shooting for brands like Iron and Resin, The North Face, and Yeti. Through his, work Dylan has also become a Roark Revivalist, a storyteller and a leader of seasonal adventures that inspire Roark’s products.
The respect is mutual. Growing up on the Central Coast, Firestone Walker is a part of his hometown. Dylan knows that the people he respects would drink this beer.
