We were devastated to learn about the destruction brought on by the Maui Wildfires in August. The loss was immeasurable, but we’re thankful there are good people like our friends at Maui Brewing Company who immediately stepped in to support everyone affected by the tragedy. And now, we’re hoping to do our best to lend a hand too.
Following the disaster, Maui Brewing Co. crafted a shared recipe called Kōkua, which is Hawaiian for “extending help to others.” Kōkua is a collaboration that has been taken and brewed by over 675 other breweries across the globe benefitting Maui wildfire relief.
Maui Brewing Co. shared a recipe for brewers to riff on, and our version is a standard West Coast IPA featuring Riwaka and Mosaic hops. We left it un-fined for maximum hop expression and a slight haze. Gold to the eye with a light haze and white foam, it’s loaded with aromas of blueberry, cantaloupe, dank diesel, gooseberry, peach, and orange pulp. It might be best described as a cross between our Gen-1 brews and Hopnosis, so it’s absolutely delicious.
We’re honored to join Maui Brewing Co. and other 600-plus breweries around the world who came together to brew Kōkua IPA to support rebuilding efforts in Maui. We’re proud to partner with great people like Maui Brewing Co. in an effort to rebuild a place loved by so many. We know our efforts can only do so much following the scale of tragedy suffered by such a beautiful place filled with incredible people, but we hope it encourages others to do some good too. Just like how Maui Brewing Co.’s immediate response inspired us, we hope you can help organize and act when your community needs it most.
Our Kōkua IPA brew-for-good is now exclusively on draught in our Venice Beach, Paso Robles, and Buellton taprooms. Come enjoy a good pint of beer for an even better cause while supplies last.
